So, these photos aren't anything planned. We just snapped a few shots of the happy couple the other night, because they got {ENGAGED} on New Years! We have an Engagement Session planned for later. But, I couldn't help posting a few pics of them.

If you know me... you know that I absolutely adore my brother-in-law, Steve. We've been friends since junior high. We spent almost everyday of our teen years together. He is one of my closest friends. I happen to be married to his very handsome older brother, Mike! He is "Super Uncle" to my children. And... now, I couldn't be more happy for him, he's {finally} engaged to be married this year! And, I'm trying to convince them to marry on our 16th anniversay, February 29th! Which also happens to be Steve's birthday. Why not? lol.

Here's the best news. His bride-to-be is one of my very good friends. I met her a couple of years ago. And, well... I never, ever expected this to happen back then. {long story!} But, now... I see that these two are truly happy together. And, how perfect for me? I get one of my friends as a sister-in-law! I couldn't be happier!

I love these little snapshots of them... you can see just how happy they are. I'm so excited to do their engagement session in a few weeks. I'll post more when I do!

{New Year's Resolutions}

New Year's Eve is always a dreaded day for me. I do not like saying goodbye to another year. It means my kids are getting older. (Ahhh... I'll have a teenager in 2012!) It means their mother is getting older. (We won't discuss that number!) It means saying goodbye to another year.

However, I do look forward to a fresh start, making new resolutions and hopefully making improvements in my life! I want to share my resolutions, so that I'll be more accountable for them. Nothing too major, but little things that I know I need to work on.

1. Weekly Random Acts of Kindness. This year, I want to plan and act out a random act of service for someone. Not just the usual mom and wife stuff that I do everyday, but something bigger than that. Either for a friend, neighbor, family member or even a complete stranger. Something that takes some time to come up with and plan out. :)

2. Dedicate a set amount of time each day to sit down with each child and visit or play with them. This is HUGE. October-December I get so busy with my business, that my kids get seriously neglected. And, I'm tired of it. My kids are MY LIFE! So, each day... I will find time to spend with each child. It may only be 10 mins reading a book, or a quick conversation about their day, but I will give each child one on one time. And, I will have 5 children in 2012... so, this will be challenging. I spend all day with my children... but setting aside time for each one, individually, will be the goal. :)

3. Lose weight! Of course... it's my resolution every year. Some years I have been very successful and others... not so successful. But, I really want to focus on a couple of things. One: More water, less Diet Coke! I really don't drink enough water. I need to kick that up a notch. Also, I need to get back to the gym every day again. I've blamed pregnancy on my lack of exercise. Which.. I am sick. So, until this baby is born, I'll do what I can. But, after he is born... it's back in the gym and no more excuses!

4. More regular Family Home Evenings and Scripture study with my family. It is becoming more and more evident to me that this needs to be a priority in my life. My kids are growing faster than ever. I want to prepare them for this brutal world they have to live in. I want my kids to know who they are and where they came from. I want them to face life's adversities with complete confidence in who they are.

5. Not to fear failure. To follow my wishes and dreams and do it with confidence. As I look to the future, sometimes fear of failing at something holds me back from trying. But, I have many things I want to accomplish this year and I'm simply giving fear the boot! Watch out... here I come! ;)

Keeping it simple this year. But... these are most important to me right now.

I know I say this ALL of THE TIME... but I love that a lot of my clients become my friends. I met the mom of this cutie many years ago, when she was pregnant with her first daughter. Over the years, we have done lots of photo sessions! Meeting new people and making new friends is absolutely the best part of being a photographer, for me anyways! This little one, Miss Parker Belle, is absolutely adorable! She's a little bit different than her sister. Her sister, Hayden {loves} the camera. Parker was a little more hesitant. But, we finally got her to lighten up a bit when we played the song, "Love You Like a Love Song" by Selena Gomez. Cracked me right up. She was shaking it and even mumbling the lyrics. Hehe. She is so unbelievably gorgeous! Thanks Ali for letting me capture the milestones of your girls. I have loved every single moment!

{birth stories}

Did you know I photograph birth stories? No... it's nothing weird, like I'm in your business at delivery! I am there to capture those first moments, those emotions, that you never want to forget! Like holding that baby for the first time, hearing their first cry, dad's first kiss... all those little moments you don't want to ever forget.

I know for most of us, we've had Dad try to take pictures in the delivery room and well, let's admit it... they get excited and they get overcome with emotion and they forget to use the camera at all! That is where a birth story photographer is needed.

How does it work? When you go into labor, depending on your past history... we will make a plan on when you want me to come. I will come to the hospital and take some photos of the things you want to remember. The little things. The details. You, your husband and your family patiently waiting for this precious new life to arrive. I do not stay in the hospital room with you the entire time. I know you want your privacy and I realize that this is a very sacred moment for you and your loved ones. I will come back in occasionally and check on you. We will keep in touch via cell phone and I won't be too far away. When the time comes for that little one to arrive, I will be there... capturing those moments you don't want to forget in a very tasteful way. You won't even know I'm there. You will have a lifetime to treasure the photos from that day. Each birth story comes with a little book for you to have forever.

I also offer just "hospital sessions" too, if you want me to come after the baby is born and capture images of the little one just hours old.

In February, I'm looking forward to my own birth story photographer coming in, Celeste Grover of Studio C Photography and Design. I really regret not doing this with my other four kids. I figured... I was a photographer! I could teach my hubby to take some great photos! Well, I did teach him. But... just like any other father... they are caught up in the moment too. He did get some great photos... but not the first few moments and emotion that I wish I could hold on to forever.

I have been luck enough to be a recipient of several really cool things! Okay, not to brag, but just this month I won a Plasma Car (A wiggle bike) for absolutely free! And, a very modern, chic, baby carrier that I plan to use in April when I take my family to Disneyland! So, check it out.

Not only does she have a cool website, she is the sweetest person you'll ever meet. I have really gotten to know this family the last couple of years. That is why I love my photography business. This has been a very wild and crazy year! Just when I started making big plans for my life... we were thrown a huge curve ball. See that chubby little face up there... he's our little surprise. In the midst of my busiest photography season ever, I've been busy growing a little baby. Yes, sickness, tiredness and well now... I'm just miserable. LOL! But... I'd do anything for this little baby. I got to see his little chubby face today and I can't stop day dreaming about kissing those soft little cheeks in 11 short weeks! (Or a little sooner, I hope!)

Can't wait to meet you baby boy!

I am so excited for January. This will be my last "small" workshop... ever! Starting next summer, I will begin a new adventure and following a dream of mine. More about that to come. But, I can't express enough how much I have enjoyed teaching these smaller scaled workshops. I have made some wonderful friends. Some that have even went on to start their own photography businesses. I am thrilled for them. I get excited every time I see them post new images on their Facebook pages! I truly love seeing people learn, seeing them understand and finally giving them the knowledge they need to use their cameras.

If you've been on the fence about whether or not to take this course... I want to encourage you to take the plunge and do it! Whether your are just wanting to take better pictures or your kids or you want to start your own photography business, or... you already have a photography business but would like to polish up on your skills... this workshop is for all of you!

If you are using your camera in Automatic Mode, you might as well of bought a 60 dollar camera at Kmart. Because... using an SLR camera in auto mode... does nothing for your portraits! If you have invested money in an SLR camera, why not learn how to get the most out of it? Learn how aperture, speed, depth of field, ISO and everything else will help you achieve "artful" photos.

My style of teaching is very casual. I teach in steps each week. I have a very simple way of teaching. I remember years and years ago, when I had my first film SLR camera and I wanted to learn how to shoot in Manual Mode. I took some classes and honestly... the only thing I walked away understanding was "The Rule of Thirds". I'm not kidding! I was very frustrated. No one really wanted to teach me what this aperture setting needed as a shutter speed setting. I was confused and frustrated. But, after several more courses and lots of online mentoring, I finally started to figure things out.

Why not, take advantage of my years of education from other photographers and my ability to teach and connect with people? I started my photography business 10 years ago. Every year... I learn new things. I continue to educate myself, by attending conferences and workshops all over the country. I have learned from the best, Kimberly Wylie, Laura Novak, Carrie Sandoval, Jerry Ghionis, and on and on. I'm still learning. I love photography. To me, it's not just about snapping a picture. It's much more than that. The two main reasons I love photography is because it's art. It's priceless art... when it's your family. The second reason, it's documenting history. Your baby is only your a baby for a minute! Trust me, I know... my baby is now in 7th grade and I am SOOO glad that I invested in a good, knowledgeable photographer when he was a baby to preserve those precious moments that are long gone now. And, I'm especially glad that I learned the art of photography so that I could capture the rest of his life!

What I'm saying... is $150.00 is a very small investment to learn how to use your camera and capture your history. If that's the only reason you take this course. Or, if you're wanting to start a business, learn how to use your camera before you do! I see lots of "photographers" out there who are pointing and shooting and really have no concept of the medium of photography. Define yourself. Find your style. You can do so, by knowing how your camera works.

This course will start in January. There will be 4 classes. More information about that in previous posts. I promise, you will not regret it! Like I said, my style is of teaching is easy. I love to teach. I am one of those people that feels like you gain more if you share your knowledge. If you have any more questions about this course, shoot me an email. The classes are held in Spanish Fork, Utah.

I am way behind on blogging... but be patient with me... I'm getting there. :) I love this little family. Little Mark, the youngest son is one of my favorites in my primary class. He always saves me a seat right next to him. He is the best helper. And, today... he told me that he's going to paint his bedroom blue. On one wall it will say BYU. (Good boy!) On the other wall "Pacific Horizon". That is the credit union my husband runs. The other wall will say "Mike". My husband's name. He says he loves Mike so much he wants his name on the wall. Mike is his scout leader. He made our day. What a wonderful family. I feel so blessed to live just down the street from them.

Question: What editing software do you use?

Answer: Photoshop CS4 and LightRoom.

Question: Are you self taught or did you go to school to learn Photoshop? Because it is near impossible for me to understand!!

Answer: Haha. I get asked this question all the time! I bought my first version of Photoshop back in 2004. I signed up for a community class to learn the basics of it. Don't try to figure that out on your own. I would definitely recommend a community class for the basics. Although, you don't necessarily learn photo editing.... it's a great start.

At the community course I learned the basics of every tool. This was a great start. The rest of my editing I learned from practice. LOTS OF PRACTICE! I did however, make an investment in mentoring one day with an awesome photographer in Wyoming. {Yep, W-Y-O!} She pointed out a few very vital tools in Photoshop that I had no idea existed and it changed my life! Okay... it didn't change my life, but it changed my editing style immensely!

My editing style has changed through the years. I look back and see the style I was "experimenting" with. But, I finally found what I like. Not too processed... but, definitely bold, bright and deep.

Photoshop is expensive... yes. Everything about photography is expensive! But, honestly.... I can't live without my Photoshop. That is how I achieve the look in my images that I desire. Photoshop Elements is great for amateurs. It has everything you'd need to edit and at a fraction of the price.

Okay... now with LightRoom. I don't use it as much as I used to. But... it is great for adjusting exposure and for organizing images. I haven't taken a course in LR. I probably should! It's on my list of "somedays".

And... I couldn't post without a picture. So... here's a little peek at my baby girl, Irelynd. She was in the studio with me one morning as I was setting up for a newborn session. I couldn't help snap one of her and her little piggies. :) She has VERY CURLY hair, and we tried pigtails this day. Oh my... so in love with this little face. I could just eat her! :)

This little girl belongs to my childhood friend. It's hard to believe that 20 years has passed since her mom and I were having sleepovers every weekend, staying up late, listening to music, watching our favorite movies, {Steel Magnolias and Fried Green Tomatoes}, talking about boys we had crushes on and laughing until we cried. Now, we're the parents. Although... I still feel like a kid!

Anyway, here's her beautiful and sweet little girl, Lexi. Can't get enough of her. And, yes she is as sweet as she is cute! She has a tender little heart. And, I miss being her teacher. I smile everytime I think about how she loved to sing a song for me every week. So priceless! Love you Lexi! I'm excited for your big day.

Last week I had SEVEN sessions! I usually only schedule two a week. It was crazy! But, newborns comes and you can't put them off and I had some seniors that needed to have their sessions ASAP. So... it made for a fun and busy week.

Saturday, I had to fit in two sessions. But, the first one was a challenge. We did it in full sun! I have to say... I'm proud of myself for taking it on. I think the shoot turned out awesome. Here are a few from that Full SUN Session!

I can't tell you how many comments I have gotten about this beautiful senior! I've heard, "She's so Hot!", "What a beautiful girl.", and on and on. All I can say is... "It's because we're related!" Haha. Just kidding. No, really we are related. Our dads are cousins. But, honestly... I don't think I met her until our session. She is gorgeous. She also is beautiful on the inside. So a little over a year ago, our cell phone contract was up and we were due for new phones. I was ready to make the plunge to a Smart Phone. After stewing about what I wanted... I decided on a very cute {purple} Blackberry Curve. My husband picked the Droid. Now, you're wondering why I picked the Blackberry? Because it was cute. Simply.. that is why!

Call me vain. But, really... I'm not. I do however feel like everything in my possession represents who I am. I am not a black, boring, boxy phone. I'm a fun, colorful, stylish chick that loves all things pretty!

So, I got this Blackberry. I had it for about 1 month. The internet was so slow, I only used it if I was desperate. The buttons were so tiny... I had a hard time texting. It just wasn't as cool as I'd hoped. Well, long story short... after a month, it took a swim in the hot tub while I was on my Spring Break Vacation. Of course, I didn't have the insurance. So, I bought an older BB off Ebay. And, I suffered this whole year.

Then, my brother-in-law wanted the new iPhone. So, he sold me his old Droid. My life has changed! Seriously. No, I'm not being paid by Verizon to say this. But... I have been left wondering why I didn't get a Droid in the first place. Oh yeah... I know why, because it's black, boxy and ugly!

But, then I decided I could do something about that. And, well.... this is what I came up with. I love it! It's me. I'm fun, colorful, happy, a proud momma and a lover of photography. This phone is now {ME}! And, I'm a confessing Droid-Addict now!

I get comments all of the time about my cute phone! And, I'm now offering custom designed cell covers for my clients... if you're interested. Most phones can be done. I've already made some for a few great Mother's Day gifts. These mommies are going to be so excited! :)

I have to say that I feel incredibly blessed the way my life turned out. Three handsome boys and to end it with a beautiful little girl has been a joyful ending I never could have imagined. I just wish my sweet baby girl would love the camera like her oldest brother did! She will either cry or run when I get it out. So... this is what we get. :) She really is a happy, funny little girl. And, did I leave out "Diva"? She is a serious diva. She likes to have her hair done, asks to have her nails painted and she loves all things "pretty". Dang I love that little girl!

So, tonight we returned from a 5 day trip down south.... to GLORIOUS SUNSHINE! We were exhausted! Kids fell asleep, hubby fell asleep. So... Mommy got to play! So, today... I decided I was going to play with my makeup skills in editing. :) And... I picked this picture of my beautiful friend, Amanda. I knew she wouldn't care that I played around with her close up photo because she is a photographer too... and she shares the same obsessions as I do! Not that she needed any touching up.... she's absolutely gorgeous... but it's fun to be dramatic once in a while!

So, tonight.... I put some eyeliner on her, added dramatic lashes and a touch of lipstick. So.... what do you think? I think I need to dig through my pictures and touch myself up a bit!

WPPI {Vegas Baby}

WPPI was amazing. I was inspired by many great photographers and instructors. My favorite two this year were Jason Aten and Jerry Ghionis. Very inspirational! Unfortunately, I was only able to be there for half the conference. Next year... I'm going to the whole thing! I feel bad that I was being lazy and I didn't want to pack my camera around everywhere. So... these are the only pics I got!

I had BIG PLANS to take my tripod and get some really cool night photos of the strip. But... I forgot my tripod and then, by the last night... my feet were blistered and sore and I was too tired to walk. So, these were all shot from my car. Lazy me!

We had fun. I got to bond with my gal pal Jaime. It was a good break, but I'm still tired from it! :)

Meet my handsome baby boys. I just realized today, as I was working on these, that this fall is going to be really hard for me, their momma! My first baby boy, Payton is going to {Junior High}! He will be entering 7th grade in August and that makes me sick! Literally! First, I'm not possibly old enough to have a kid in junior high. Second, I got a real social education at that age and I don't want my child to learn about this evil world! Maybe they'll let me attend classes with him and be his locker partner? What do you think? Wahhhh!

Also... my baby, baby boy... Brock is going to Kindergarten! Wahhhh! I'll have all 3 boys in school everyday. Now, that's going to be super strange! I always thought, life will be so much easier when they were all in school... but really, I don't want them all in school!

Tate, my middle son, will be in 2nd grade. He will be "Big Brother" at school this year. As their oldest brother will be attending a new school. He's too little to be the big brother at school! I want Payton there taking care of them. Wow! I know, I overthink things way too much! But, August is not looking good for this momma!

On a happy note: These are my sweet boys. And, I couldn't be more proud. They are good kids! Okay, well... occasionally the youngest one gives me a run for my money. But... he can also be so sweet. :) I feel so blessed to have 4 children! There was a time we didn't think we'd have any children. Then we were blessed with one. And, for 5 years... we thought we'd never have any more. But, when the timing was right, everything worked out and I got all the children I wanted. (Three of them in 5 years!)

Being a mom is definitely the hardest job I've ever had. But, I find no greater joy than hearing my children laughing. Or, maybe listening in on their conversations to one another. Or, maybe it's the hugs and kisses and snuggling I get from them. Anyway... I love them. I am so blessed to be their mother.

My little Irelynd Lola will be turning {TWO} next week and I can hardly believe it! I realized that today would be the only day I would have time to do her 2-year-old photos. So... sadly, this mean mommy drug her out to the sticks, snot nosed and not feeling good. :( Also, I'll confess... my favorite lab is having a sale on their canvas gallery wraps and it ends in two days and I REALLY want canvases of all my children on the wall! So, the pressue was one. Oh well, I know that these will probably be my favorite photos 10 years from now when my little girl is growing up.

So, meet LoLo. My precious baby girl. Who, is finally my ally. As we live in a house full of boys. I now have a child to paint nails with, do hair and dress like a dolly. And, she is ALL GIRL. She loves to dress up, have her hair done and look pretty. I love that she plays mommy to her dollies and she loves all things that are pretty. Even if her favorite toy is my makeup box! I was a boy-only mom for over 10 years... having a princess has been life changing. I didn't realize what I was missing out on. I am so grateful for her and my 3 sons. I have been blessed beyond measure!

I belong to a group of photographers that have all come together to do this challenge this year. It's called {Project 52}. Each week, we are required to take a picture. We are assigned themes. Isn't she gorgeous? Of course, we're related. Haha. Just kidding. I wish I looked like her. I'd take her age too! So... meet my beautiful cousin, Kaitlyn. (Although, she calls me Aunt Angie... so it's weird to say cousin.) We were the ONLY GIRLS in our family for 20 years, until my little Irelynd was born 2 years ago. I practically raised her. I loved playing with her everyday and taking care of her. I loved being her "Other Mother".

I remember very vividly a night that I called home while I was at school in St. George. I was out on the payphone in front of our apartment complex. (Yes... I'm that old!) I remember hearing my little 5 year-old niece's voice on the other line and sobbing hysterically as she told me about kindergarden that day. Everyone that had walked by thought for sure that someone had died! Haha.

I sure missed my baby girl. It was hard leaving her. It's fun now that she's in her twenties and we're pals. It's also fun having a daughter that looks very similar to my baby Katie. Irelynd does things all the time that remind me of Kaitlyn. It's like stepping back in time somedays.

Anyway... I didn't mean to write a novel. But, wanted my baby girl to know that she will always be my baby. I love my little KatieBuggs! Congrats to Kaitlyn and Colton and their upcoming marriage. All I have to say is... he better bring you back to Utah soon or I will kick his butt! :)

Wasn't long ago... that we did sweet Hayden's newborn photos. And, now she has a new little sister. Meet beautiful little Parker. What beautiful children!

{2010} was good!

It's hard to believe that 2010 is gone already. The year was definitely good to me and my family.

-I got to spend a wonderful week in Denver at a workshop hosted by Kimberly Wylie and Laura Novak. While there, I met some wonderful new friends. I learned so much. I'm so grateful for the experience and for my hubby, who stayed home with our kiddos so I could go.

-Our family spent Spring Break in Mesquite with our really good friends. We rented a nice little condo. Spent the days shopping in St. George, eating lots of good food, sitting by the pool and playing at the park. Ahhh.... it was a great break. (Other than my brand new Blackberry did take a swim in the hot tub!)

-Just me and Mike got a weekend away in Mesquite too. His work had their annual meetings down there. It was a good, relaxing weekend. Shopping, sleeping, golf and movies. Fun to spend a weekend with just the hubster.

-Our little LoLo had her 1st birthday in 2010. We love having her in our family and all the pink she brings to it!

-We had lots of trips to the swimming pool.

-We enjoyed several "late night" movie parties. Having all our friends and neighbors over to watch movies projected on the house. A few of the nights we got spoiled by having Nicki make us cotton candy!

-I had a couple of trips to St. George with my girlfriends. And, I'm smiling just thinking about it. We shopped til we dropped. We ate and ate. We laughed until we cried. We soaked in the hot tub late into the night. We hardly slept a wink. But, the friends and laughter were good therapy. Muah to my friends! I love you!

-Mike and I had lots of dates alone. Wow... our oldest is now old enough to tend. It has been great to spend time with my husband alone.

-I got a new camera! Yay! Early in the year I got my dream camera! Woo hoo!

-I had a busy year in my photography business. I am so grateful for my clients.

-Spent the weekend at the cabin with my gal pals. Spooked ourselves. Laughed and laughed. Two words: "Shake That"! Haha

-Spent the summer at the ballpark watching my boys play ball. I love it. It's my favorite part about summer.

-24th of July Celebration was awesome! Nights at the park food stands, rodeo, parade and barbeque with the Clayson family.

I could go on and on... it was a great year. I am feeling so much gratitude for all that I've been blessed with. I have a wonderful hubby that does so much for us. I'm blessed with 4 children... amazing to think that there was a time that we didn't think we'd be able to have more children. And, now I have FOUR! I love them so much. I'm so proud of my kids. I'm blessed with awesome friends. They are my therapy. I'm so grateful for each of them. I love my one and only brother, Jake and his family. I love that we live so close to each other and that I see them all the time. Crazy to think that 25 years ago we hated each other's guts and now we are the best of friends. (haha...love you bro... mom was right, someday we'd grow up and be sorry for being so mean to each other!) And, I am so grateful for my parents and that they are healthy and happy. Sorry, I didn't mean to get off on a gratitude sermon... but my heart is full tonight.

"Beginner's Basics" photography class.

Who should take this course?

-Those who want to learn to take better photos.

-Those who would like to crank up the creativity in their photos by learning to shoot in manual.

-Those who have an SLR camera and shoot only in automatic.

-If you'd like to know how aperture, speed and ISO affect your photos.

What a darling family! Miranda {the mommy} is such a sweetheart! I was so excited to finally meet her entire family. Her kids are angels! Wow! So sweet and well behaved! I felt like I hardly worked to get them to smile! Oh, and Scott... you're an angel too! {wink, wink}!

Come meet novel writer, Kristie Damon. She has just started her 20th novel and her first novel will soon be published! I am looking forward to reading it! Kristie is one of the funniest gals I've ever met. She always has the best stories and she has a way of telling them. Before she started writing full time, she designed scrapbook paper and enjoyed teaching scrapbooking classes. She even went to Canada twice to teach some classes!

When I asked her to tell me things about me, this is what she said:

" I am addicted to soda and sleep and I love my two chillens! They make me laugh. I have been married to John for 18 years, and seriously, he's the most patient, generous man on the planet. I think it would be hard to be married to a writer. He's very good to me. I have awesome parents and siblings ... I tolerate our dog. That's about all for now. O, I can't eat anything blue and I can edit in my sleep."

LOL... I was trying to think what is out there that is blue??? Ummm... blue frosting? Is that a "no", Kristie? Oh wait, blue M&M's! Anyway, when her book is published, I'll be first in line to get it. So, stay tuned... I'll be telling you all about it!

Oh my... I LOVE how these turned out! I've been waiting for a perfect overcast day... to shoot at this farm. Although, it was pretty chilly.... the lighting was AWESOME! And, my subjects are pretty dang cute! Oh... how I love this family! {Sorry.... too many favorites!}
